Two juggernauts battle it out for AFC supremacy. The undefeated Chiefs, coming off a victory against a tough Jaguars team, faces off against the New England Patriots, who seem to be hitting on all cylinders after putting up 38 points in back-to-back weeks.

Predictions

The new golden boy of the NFL, kept the “w’s” coming this week, but has inevitably cooled down slightly over the past few weeks. After tossing a record 13 touchdowns to 0 intercepts over the first 3 games of the season, Patrick Mahomes has thrown only 1 touchdown to 2 interceptions in the last two outings. Still, he and his supporting cast have looked incredible, and will impose a number of issues for a New England defense that has surrendered at least 24 points in three games this season.

What was the most impressive look in Kansas City’s victory over Jacksonville in week 5 was their defense, and the fact that they actually have one. They picked off Blake Bortles 4 times, and sacked him 5 times. Things won’t come that easy going against Tom Brady and a New England offensive unit who has come into their own over the past two games. After averaging a mediocre 19 points over the first 3 weeks of the season, the Pats have nearly doubled that average over the last two.

Brady now has Julian Edelman back at the helm, Josh Gordon getting more involved every week, and Sony Michel averaging over 100 yards rushing since taking the lead back in New England. Simply put, the Pats have too much firepower for a defense that has surrendered the most points in the league this season, and ranks near the bottom half of the league in nearly every statistical category. Belichick should be able to come up with a game plan to at least slow down Mahomes enough to escape with a victory, and remind everyone who the true “golden boy” of the NFL is, Tom Brady.

  • Score prediction: Patriots win 35-31

Betting Tips

  • Chiefs (+3.5) at Patriots (-3.5) Via betway: Take Patriots (-3.5)

You know Belichick wants to shut the Mahomes fanboys up, and show people that his Patriots are the favorites in the AFC. Since Rex Burkhead has gone down, and Sony Michel has taken over in the backfield, the offense has taken the next step. The Chiefs defense is horrendous at this point and will not be able to contain the abundance of talent at Brady’s disposal.

Mahomes saw his first struggles of the season vs. the Jags, and now faces off with a defense that has surrendered a measly 15.5 ppg over their last two outings. While the Chiefs schematics have taken the league by storm, the Patriots are the kings at putting the right players in the right spots, and should be able to contain Mahomes as much as he can be contained.

  • Over/Under 59 pts. Via betway: Take the Over

These are likely the two most explosive offenses in all of football. Tom Brady has looked as good as ever since the acquisition of Gordon and the return of Edelman to the lineup, and Mahomes has been a walking cheat code. Expect fireworks on Sunday night, as points will be scored in bunches.
