Miami captured their first win in their past four games on Friday, while Toronto is coming off a two game stint where they defeated opponents by a combined score of 34 points.

The Heat have struggled of late, but with Friday’s victory over the Chicago Bulls, Miami pulls only a game and a half out of the 8th spot in the East. Speaking of the East, the Heat will be facing off against the best the East has to offer on Sunday. The Raptors come in atop the conference rankings, and are riding a four game win streak.

Miami will once again have to lean on two players in particular, Josh Richardson and Hasaan Whiteside, if they have any hopes of bringing down the “Beast in the East”. Richardson in particular has thrived in his newfound role of go-to option in the Heat’s offense, averaging 20+ ppg, and coming off of a 27 point outing on Friday night. Richardson has improved in all facets of his game this season, including his stroke from beyond the arc. His shooting percentage from three has gone up nearly 5% from his career average. Richardson will team up with Whiteside, whom has been on a tear of late, combining for 39 points and 33 rebound in his past two games, as the thriving forces for Miami’s upset bid.

Toronto has defeated opponents by an average of 17 points over the past two games, and frankly looks like the best team in basketball. Miami’s hopes of sneaking into the playoff picture as the year goes on aren’t far fetched, but to compete with the juggernauts of the Eastern Conference is another story. Whiteside will struggle finding the same success that he has in recent games, as he faces a Toronto team that has surrendered a combined 15 points and 11 rebounds to centers in their previous two games. The loss of Goran Dragic to injury has really limited Miami’s ball movement in recent weeks. Miami also struggles to produce any offense out of the power forward position, which is evident by Justise Winslow’s benching two games ago. Prior to his benching, Winslow was on a four game span where he averaged a messy 5.5 points in 25.8 minutes per game.

Score prediction: Raptors win 121-108

Betting Tips

Toronto ranks in the top seven of the NBA in both offensive and defensive ppg, and has won their previous two games by an average of 17 points. The Raptors sport one of the league’s most well rounded rosters, and have a bonafide superstar in Kawhi Leonard. Josh Richardson is a nice piece for Miami, but he lacks any legit offensive threats around him. Couple that with Dragic missing this game due to injury, and Toronto should earn the “W” fairly easily on Sunday.

Toronto averages 116+ ppg on the season, and has scored 122+ points in three of their last four games. If Miami can add their usual scoring average (108 ppg), then this contest should have no issue reaching the over.

Head to Head

These two teams have faced off 82 times in the regular season, with Miami holding a huge lead over Toronto in the win column. Miami’s 22 game lead in the series comes in big part due to Toronto going winless against the Heat from 2010-2014.

  • Miami is 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 road games vs. a team with a winning % greater than .600.
  • Miami is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. the Eastern Conference.
  • Miami is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 Sunday games.
  • The total has gone over in 8 of the past 10 Miami games when the Heat are coming off a game where they scored 100+ points (103 points in their last game).
  • Toronto is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. the NBA Southeast.
  • Toronto is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a SU win.
