Giants vs Jets: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Friday, August 24th, 7:30pm Eastern Time
The Giants visit the Jets on Friday 8/24 in the “shortest road trip in the league”.
It’s week 3 of the preseason, which means that we can expect to see starters play through at least the first half. Rookie Sam Darnold is expected to get the start for the Jets at QB, but this game may center around another QB in green, Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater has been outstanding the past two weeks (113 passer rating) and the Jets will likely showcase the former Viking, in hopes of raising his trade value for QB hungry teams. Bridgewater will likely be joined in the backfield by free agent signee, Isaiah Crowell, as he has cleared concussion protocol.
While the Jets are getting players back on the field, the other New York team is taking a more cautious approach. Pat Shurmur has been passive when asked about Odell Beckham’s availability for Friday night. They also have injury concerns in the backfield, with Saquon Barkley listed as questionable with a hamstring injury and not expected to play. Expect to see a lot of Wayne Gallman in Barkley’s absence. Gallman scored twice last week, and is battling for the backup job. Also keep an eye on Curtis Riley, a corner-turned-safety, who has come out of nowhere to put himself in prime position to win the starting free safety spot opposite of Landon Collins.
While the Giants seem to be waiting for week 1, the Jets are trying to roll in to the season hot. With big blue resting players, expect gang green to ride Bridgewater’s arm to a victory.
Score prediction: Jets win 27-17
- Giants vs. Jets (-2.5): Jets outright
The Giants know who Eli Manning is, a meaningless preseason game isn’t going to change their viewpoint on him. Add in a shaky o-line and their two biggest studs (Beckham & Barkley) likely out with injury. Expect the Giants to play it safe come Friday.
This game is a lot more important for the Jets. They will likely find their starting quarterback following this outing. With jobs to be won at QB and at WR, look for the Jets to be pass happy. They want to see which skill players they will be moving forward with into week 1.
- Over 42 pts.
With a battle for the Jets starting QB job on the line, and a chance to attract Bridgewater buyers, look for the Jets to open it up on offense.
