Iceland will be eyeing an almighty upset against the side that ended their run to the quarter-finals in Euro 2016 but may find a trip to world champions France too tall an order.
By the time the Euro 2020 rolls around, it will have been 20 years since France recorded that famous victory over Italy in Rotterdam to lift the Euro 2000 crown.
The French have not failed to qualify for a European championship since 1988 and after success in Russia last summer, confidence rightly remains high in Didier Deschamps’ camp.
However, their opponents also have their own success story after stunning England in the last 16 of Euro 2016 and reaching the quarter-finals only to lose to France in the last eight.
There are no prizes for guessing that the home side are overwhelming favourites with relevant sportsbooks to get the job done and take another step-in qualification for a major tournament, but 2016 showed that Iceland are no longer the minnows they once were.
However, if Erik Hamrén’s men are to cause a shock, they are going to have to overcome some truly rotten form.
Prior to the match with Andorra, Iceland had not won a game in their last 15 matches in all competitions including four straight defeats in the Nations League – one of which was a 6-0 hammering away at Switzerland.
That makes the upset extremely unlikely and leaves us asking the question how much France will win by.
Goals have been in abundance when the pair have met with five of the last six games seeing four or more goals per game making a 3-1 home win the way to go.
Over 3.5 goals
The last four meetings between the two has seen both sides score and a total of 21 goals netted at an average of 5.25 goals per game making goals galore smartest bet with the top betting sites for value.
France to win both halves
Les Bleus scored in both halves in two of their last four games in which they have been classed the home side and look a far stronger outfit than their opponents.

Head to Head
France famously defeated the Icelandic warriors 5-2 at the quarter-final stage of Euro 2016 – after Iceland had dumped England out in the last 16.
The French hosted Iceland as recently as October last year in a friendly which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Overall, France have never lost to Iceland, winning nine and drawing four times.
- Iceland were thumped 8-0 by the French in the pairs’ first ever meeting during a World Cup qualifier in 1957.
- France have not failed to qualify for the Euros since 1988.
- Les Bleus have won the European Championships twice (1984, 2000).
