Dallas Cowboys Vs Washington Redskins: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Sunday, 21 October 2018, 4:25 pm Eastern Time
Two NFC East teams coming off impressive week 6 victories will battle it out for first place in the division.
The Redskins bounced back big time a week ago, after being dismantled at the hands of the Saints in week 5. They surprised many people by handing the Carolina Panthers their second loss on the season. Adrian Peterson showed everyone once again that he is not human, rushing for nearly 100 yards while dealing with a plethora of injuries, most notably a dislocated shoulder. Alex Smith, as usual, did just enough to get his team the win.
While the Redskins impressed, the Cowboys shocked in week 6, putting up a whopping 40 points on the once vaunted Jacksonville Jaguars defense. Dallas has finally seemed to find what works for them offensively. After weeks of trying to show the world that they made the right decision to let Dez Bryant walk, they finally took the ball out of Dak’s throwing hand, and allowed him to use his legs. Dak ran the ball 11 times, and he and Zeke combined for 188 yards rushing. This opened up short throwing windows for Cole Beasley working out of the slot.
The Redskins are a hard team to get a grip on. One week they look like they can compete with anyone, then the next they’re getting run off the field. For all the flack Dallas gets for not addressing their wide receiver position this offseason, Washington hasn’t had a wideout go over 63 yards in a single game this season either. Which means they will once again lean on AP to move the ball offensively. Yet, the Cowboys front 7 is one of the best in the game, and the sideline-to-sideline speed of linebackers Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch will be on full display Sunday afternoon. Peterson will likely find yardage hard to come by, putting the ball in to the hands of an inefficient passing game. Certainly not a good recipe for a Washington victory.
Score prediction: Cowboys win 24-17
The Cowboys seem to be coming into their own. Look for Dak and Zeke to attack the rushing lanes of Washington, allowing Dak to play within his own strengths. The combination of Washington’s lackluster skill players and the Cowboys 4th ranked defense should be enough for Dallas to come away with an outright victory, let alone giving them 1.5 points to start with.
These two defenses rank 4th and 5th respectively in the NFL. Compile those two stellar defenses with less than average offenses, and expect a low scoring slugfest in this divisional game.
