DAL Cowboys at LA Rams: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Saturday 1/12 8:15 PM (ET)
LA Memorial Coliseum
Two of the premier running backs in football face off in hopes of advancing their respective teams into the NFC Championship game.
Dak Prescott may not be the most talented signal caller in the NFL, but he played with true grit in last week’s wild card victory, proving once again he’s a gamer and a winner. The ‘Boys stuck to their commonly used game plan, play stellar defense, feed Zeke, and feature Amari Cooper in the passing game. Dallas shut down the league’s top rushing attack a week ago, as Seattle rushed for a meagre 73 yards on 24 attempts.
Todd Gurley has now gone three weeks without taking a snap in an NFL game. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year will be fresh and ready to try his hand at forcing his will on Dallas’ rather stingy front seven. Joining Gurley in Los Angeles’ backfield is Jared Goff. Goff struggled down the stretch of the regular season, yet the Rams still led their offense to a second-place ranking in total yards and ppg for the 2018 season.
LA’s firepower on offense is unquestioned, and should cause matchup issues against a defense that surrendered an average of 412 total yards from week 16-17. Their failure to develop a second option in the passing game behind Amari Cooper will haunt the Dallas offense on Saturday. The Rams defense held opponents to 16 points or fewer in three of their final five regular season games. Wade Phillips will keep a safety over the top of Cooper at all times, daring Dak and other WRs to beat them. That’s something that seems fairly unlikely to come to fruition.
Score prediction: Rams win 27-23
Over Dallas’ last 13 games they’ve been defeated by seven or more points just twice. Dallas’ tendency to lean on Ezekiel Elliott and the run game forces the time of possession in their favor. That, accompanied with a strong defense, leaves opponents with very little time or opportunity to pull away on the scoreboard.
Online betting sites place an O/U of nearly 50 points for Saturday night’s game. Good thing the Rams own the NFL’s second ranked offense. Rams games have gone over in five of their last seven games when playing at home, including a total score of 80 points in their most recent game. Dallas has now scored an average of 29 points in their past three contests.
