The new golden boy of the college football world, true freshman Trevor Lawrence, will look to dethrone Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide. Clemson battles Alabama for the third time in four years to determine the 2018-19 College Football National Champion.

Predictions

Alabama came out the gates firing in the playoff round. The Tide closed out a 21-0 lead in the first quarter against Oklahoma. Alabama looked so good at one point, you might have wondered why we even have to play another game next week, when we could just throne them now. Then, Bama went on to play a very un-Saban like second and third quarter, filled with penalties and boneheaded mistakes. Yet despite their miscues, Bama still managed to beat the #4 team in the nation by 11 points, to the tune of 45-34. The Sooners’ Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray looked dishevelled all game. The 5’10 Murray looked at a disadvantage from the get go, staring down a plethora of NFL-ready bodies across from him. Murray went on to register his worst completion percentage and QBR of the year.

Trevor Lawrence announced to the world what most college football diehards knew since the time Lawrence was tossing touchdowns for Cartersville high school in Georgia, that he’s damn good. The true freshman never looked rattled by the big moment, playing with complete composure in what was a dominating 30-3 victory over Notre Dame a week ago. The loss of Dexter Lawrence proved to have no ill effects on the all-world front seven of Clemson. The Tigers dominated the trenches, holding the nearly 1,000-yard rusher Dexter Williams to a putrid 3.4 ypc.

This game will be competitive, something that we didn’t see for most of the two playoff round games. The clear two best teams in College Football will be must-see TV come Monday night. Dexter Lawrence and his 350+ lb. frame will once again be missing in the middle of Clemson’s defensive front. Yet this time around, it will have an effect on the outcome of the game. Alabama’s rush offense, who averaged 200+ ypg, will be spearheaded by the ultra talented Josh Jacobs, who looked like the best player on the field in the Orange Bowl. Alabama will pound the rock, leading to open receivers for Tua down the field off of play action. Trevor Lawrence should make at least one freshman mistake vs. the menacing Bama defense, which will be one too many vs. a Nick Saban led team.

Score prediction: Alabama wins 31-27

Betting Tips

Oklahoma had success throwing against Bama’s secondary a week ago, especially when targeting freshman Patrick Surtain II. Clemson’s wide receiver duo of Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins combined for over 200 yards receiving and three touchdowns a week ago. Clemson’s offense, led by the right arm of Trevor Lawrence, will keep Bama on their feet till the final whistle.

My current score prediction seats this O/U as a push. Yet if I were to put money down on these betting site odds, I would surely go with the OVER. In the previous two Championship matchups between these teams, the total has never been under 66 points. Alabama comes into this game with their best offense in school history, while Clemson’s passing game is reaching new heights under Lawrence.
