CHI Bears at MIN Vikings: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips
Sunday 12/30 4:25 PM (ET),
U.S. Bank Stadium
The Vikings will look to defeat their division rivals, the Chicago Bears, and punch their ticket into the playoffs on the final weekend of the 2018 NFL regular season.
The Vikings enter Sunday’s game in a nearly must-win scenario to lock down the final playoff spot in the NFC. After an up and down season for most of 2018, the Vikes have seemed to get the ball rolling at the right time. Over the past two weeks, Minnesota has won by a combined score of 68-26. Minnesota, who was a run dominant team a year ago, has seemed to finally find their ground game over these past two weeks after it had been M.I.A for the first 14 weeks of the 2018 NFL season. Dalvin Cook has accumulated 271 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns over their two game winning streak.
The Bears have won three games in a row since Mitchell Trubisky returned from injury, although it hasn’t been a pretty win streak. Trubisky, who looked like one of the best big-play threats at the QB position that the NFL had to offer early in the season, has struggled down the stretch. He has accounted for four touchdowns to four turnovers since returning to the starting lineup. Trubisky, who’s game relies heavily on his athleticism out of the pocket, only had three games under 23 rushing yards before his injury. Yet since retuning, he has not eclipsed 23 yards rushing in a single game.
While the Bears are already locked into the playoffs, that doesn’t mean they have nothing to play for. Chicago will look to recapture the explosive offense that accompanied them through much of the regular season. Also, knocking their division rivals out of the playoffs should certainly add fuel to the fire. Kirk Cousins has proven time and time again that he will come up short in big games. Cousins is just 4-24 all time vs. teams with a winning record. Sunday should make it 4-25.
Score prediction: Bears win 27-23
I’m frankly confused how the Vikings managed to be favored in this game, and by such a large margin at that. Visit any of the top betting sites and take the Bears +4.5 points now. Minnesota has only been successful this year when playing balanced football. That is something they will struggle to do against Chicago’s 4th ranked defense and 2nd ranked run defense.
The Vikings have scored an average of 34 points over their last two contests. That score is bound to take a slight hit vs. the new Monsters of the Midway, but not enough to keep this game under 40.5 points. Chicago will be looking to get Trubisky back on track, which means higher possibility of explosive plays for the Bears. It also means points on the scoreboard for Chicago.
Head to Head
This storied rivalry has been very much one sided of late. Minnesota holds a prominent 7-3 record over Chicago over their last ten contests. Chicago did however capture the “W” in their most recent matchup, a 25-20 victory over the Vikes in week 11 of this year.
- Chicago is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games.
- Chicago is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games when playing Minnesota.
- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Chicago’s last 5 games.
- Minnesota is 17-7-1 ATS in their last 25 home games.
- Minnesota is 5-0 SU in their last 5 home games vs. Chicago.
- Minnesota is 6-2 SU in their last 8 games vs. Chicago.
