Chelsea vs Brighton: Predictions, Betting Tips & Odds
Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019 @ 14:45
The pressure is on at both ends of the table with hosts Chelsea in a bitter fight to make the top four while visitors Brighton can ill afford to drop points in the battle to avoid the drop.
Back to back wins in the Premier League and FA Cup progress prior to the international break could not have come at a better time for Brighton, although Chris Hughton knows there is still plenty of work to do this season if the South Coast club are to maintain their top-flight status for another season.
Hughton’s counter-part at Chelsea, Maurizio Sarri, is in a battle of his own – not only to reach the top four and qualify for the Champions League, but also to cling on to his job.
This rearranged fixture is the perfect opportunity for both sides to lay down a marker for the rest of the season although according to top betting sites, bettors are better off plumping on the home win.
That is a fair assessment too considering the Seagulls have not beaten Chelsea in any competition since 1933 and never at Stamford Bridge. In fact, in 11 previous meetings, Brighton have only managed to score four goals.
Considering the Blues have only conceded 10 at home all season, expect the home side to walk away with the three points in a comfortable 2-0 win.
Chelsea to win by exactly two goals
In the sides’ last eight meetings, the Blues have scored exactly two goals in five of those matches. Considering Chelsea’s home defensive record is only bettered by Liverpool, it makes this a great bet with popular sportsbooks for value.
Under 2.5 goals
Neither side has managed to score more than two goals in a Premier League game since February, suggesting this contest will not be goals galore.

Head to Head
The pair first met in a 1933 FA Cup tie which Brighton won 2-1. That remains the Seagulls’ only victory over Chelsea, with the Blues winning nine of the other 10 games.
The Blues recorded a narrow 2-1 win over Brighton at the AMEX back in December and claimed a rather more comfortable 2-0 win the last time the Seagulls visited Stamford Bridge.
- Brighton have never won a game at Stamford Bridge in any competition
- The Seagulls have won only three away league games this season, and have only 11 points from a possible 45 from away games.
- Only Liverpool have a better home defensive record at home this season than Chelsea, but Chelsea have only lost once in front of their own fans.
