The Saints, who have already stated they won’t rest their starters this week, face off against a Cam Newton-less, and possibly Christian McCaffrey-less Carolina team.

The Panthers have officially hit rock bottom. Once thought of as true NFC contenders, they have dropped seven in a row, after starting the season at an impressive 6-2. Carolina will not only be without Cam Newton on Sunday, but also second string QB Taylor Heinicke. That means Kyle Allen will get his first NFL start vs. a Saints defense that has surrendered 17 points or less in six of their last seven games. It doesn’t help that the Panthers have been mum on Christian McCaffrey’s availability for Sunday. If I had to bet, even if McCaffrey is active, it would be in a very limited role.

The Saints won’t be sitting starters in this one, although it has been stated that Teddy Bridgewater will get playing time at QB. Bridgewater should move the Saints offense just fine come Sunday, especially if he features Mike Thomas and Alvin Kamara in the passing game. Thomas and Kamara both have Saints single season records within reaching distance, and will likely rewrite the team’s record books vs. a Carolina defense that has struggled mightily down the stretch.

Carolina is a team that is lost. They are down to their third string quarterback, likely without their best offensive playmaker, and possibly playing their last game with Ron Rivera calling the shots. Carolina will push their losing streak to an appalling eight games. Teddy Bridgewater will look to showcase to the other 31 teams in the NFL that he is capable of manning a starting gig next season. Versing a Carolina team with nothing to play for is the perfect opportunity for Teddy B to go out there and light it up.

Score prediction: Saints win 30-17

Betting Tips

The Saints have been dominant on defense in terms of keeping opponents out of the endzone, allowing 17+ points just once over a seven game span. Kyle Allen starts for Carolina, something he was rarely capable of doing at multiple stops in his college career. New Orleans have covered betting sites lines with ease throughout the season, going 10-3 ATS this year.

Teddy B will have all the skill players at his disposal that Drew Brees has had throughout the season. While Teddy isn’t Drew Brees, his stats may look similar on Sunday vs. a railing Panthers team looking ahead to the offseason.
