Can Watford Cause an Upset this Weekend in the Premier League?

Liverpool tend not to fare well against bottom-half clubs and new Watford manager Marco Silva will be aiming to upset the Reds once again in the Premier League

Watford are as big as 5/1 for victory at Vicarage Road on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season as they aim to upset Liverpool. Marco Silva has recruited well this summer and former Juventus playmaker Roberto Pereyra is fit again. Jurgen Klopp’s side often struggle against lower-ranked opposition and the confusion surrounding Philippe Coutinho’s future cannot be helping their cause.

Silva’s record in home matches is extremely impressive as a manager and he almost guided a seemingly doomed Hull City to safety against the odds last season. Liverpool squeaked past the Hornets with a 1-0 victory here in May thanks to an Emre Can wonder goal but had been defeated in their previous visit back in 2015.

Troy Deeney is missing for the hosts which is a blow for Silva and for those who have opted to back the Hornets for success in this game but with Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana missing for the visitors, there’s every chance of the Hertfordshire side outplaying their odds here.

There’s a range of different markets available if you’re betting on this match and it may be wise to have a look at the possibility of Both Teams to Score which is priced around 4/5 or even Watford +1 on the match handicap which is 8/5. Information on all these markets can be found in our guide to soccer betting

Other fixtures taking place on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season including newly promoted Brighton hosting Manchester City, Chelsea v Burnley, Newcastle v Spurs and Manchester United hosting West Ham on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Liverpool are priced at 8/15 for success on Saturday lunchtime but their record in these kinds of fixtures doesn’t inspire and Marco Silva has beaten them before during his tenure at Hull. It could be a difficult 90 minutes for the Reds at Vicarage Road.
