September is shaping up to be a great month for sports betting. The MLB regular season is winding down, so it’s crunch time in the baseball world. Meanwhile, the 2021 NFL season is set to kick off with Week 1 on September 10. Also, don’t forget about the MLS, the prestigious U.S. Open tennis tournament, and top MMA events, including UFC 266: Volkanovski vs. Ortega. MLB

MLBSeptember means the World Series is just around the corner. The 2021 MLB season begins to wind down, so the level of competition will undoubtedly increase as several teams look to make a push for the playoffs. Bettors and fans have a good idea of who the best teams are now, but anything can happen from here until the season ends.

Don’t miss:

  • Blue Jays vs. Athletics – September 3
  • Athletics vs. White Sox – September 7
  • Indians vs. Brewers – September 11
  • Reds vs. Dodgers – September 17
  • Rays vs. Blue Jays – September 20
  • Athletics vs. Astros – September 26

Our Expert Pick:

The Dodgers are currently in second in their division, but despite that, they’re still the betting favourite to win the World Series once again. However, there’s still lots of baseball left, and although the top teams like the White Sox, Brewers, Giants, and Astros are solid betting picks for September, don’t sleep on teams fighting to make the playoffs. Sleepers include the Blue Jays, Braves, Red Sox, Athletics, and the Phillies.

NFL

After a seven-month hiatus, the NFL is back and will kick off with Thursday Night Football on September 9. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the reigning Super Bowl champions, but it’s going to be interesting to see if a 44-year-old Tom Brady can keep them afloat this upcoming season. There are many great teams, and as usual, several dark horse teams will emerge as the season progresses.

Don’t miss:

  • Buccaneers vs. Cowboys – September 9
  • Chiefs vs. Browns – September 12
  • Saints vs. Packers – September 12
  • Seahawks vs. Titans – September 19
  • Ravens vs. Chiefs – September 19
  • Rams vs. Buccaneers – September 26

Our expert pick:

The first two to four weeks of the NFL regular season are usually marred with upsets since we really have no idea who is a legit contender. If last season is any indication, though, there are some educated guesses you can make to get the most out of your online betting. For September, picks like the Chiefs, Buccaneers, Packers, Rams, and Ravens should help you out.

UFC

Currently, there are only three UFC events scheduled for this September, but that still provides plenty of matchups to bet on UFC. There is a main UFC event on September 25, UFC 266, which is slated to feature a featherweight title bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega as the main event. We’ll also see Valentina Shevchenko against Lauren Murphy in a women’s flyweight championship bout for the co-main event.

Schedule:

  • UFC Fight Night 191: Brunson vs. Till – September 4
  • UFC Fight Night 192: Smith vs. Spann – September 18
  • UFC 266: Volkanovski vs Ortega – September 25

Our Expert Pick:

Ortega is a former title challenger who’s lost just once in his last eight contests. According to UFC betting sites, he’s a scrappy fighter, a worthy pick to snatch the crown from Volkanovski, even though the Aussie is undefeated in the UFC. Also, Shevchenko will get a tremendous challenge from Murphy, but Shevchenko doesn’t lose to anybody unless they’re named Amanda Nunes.

Tennis

US OPEN bettingWith Wimbledon in the books, pro tennis players are gearing up for the U.S. Open, set to begin on August 30. Dominic Thiem won the 2020 Men’s Singles competition, but he’s out with a wrist injury, so he won’t get to defend his title. That leaves the spot open for several top players, including Canadian stars like Denis Shapovalov.

Schedule:
August 30 – September 12

Our Expert Pick:

Novak Djokovic is the betting favorite for the Men’s Singles event, likely due to winning at Wimbledon earlier this year. However, Shapovalov and Gregor Dimitrov make for compelling dark horse betting picks. For Women’s Singles, 2019 winner Bianca Andreescu has a good shot at winning, and she’ll return excellent betting value as well. Also, keep an eye on Barbora Krejčíková and Belinda Bencic.

MLS

MLSThe MLS season continues in September, and there are many terrific matchups on the league’s schedule. Canadian teams aren’t doing well this season, save for CF Montreal, who currently has a 7-7 record and is sitting in sixth in the Eastern Conference. However, there’s still lots of soccer action left, so September should be exciting for soccer fans!

Don’t miss:

  • Nashville SC vs. New York City FC – September 3
  • LA Galaxy vs. Colorado Rapids – September 11
  • Minnesota United FC vs. Sporting KC – September 15
  • CF Montreal vs. Orlando City SC – September 15
  • DC United vs. Atlanta United FC – September 18
  • Orlando City SC vs. New England Revolution – September 25

Our Expert Pick:

New England is currently the best team in the MLS, having lost just three games thus far this season. They look unstoppable, but things are much closer in the Western Conference where Seattle Sounders FC, Sporting KC, Colorado Rapids, LA Galaxy, and Minnesota United FC are all hovering near the top spot with similar records. Western Conference matchups will be harder to predict, but there’s better betting value to be found overall.
