TipThe 2018-19 NHL playoffs kickoff on Wednesday evening with the Presidents’ Trophy winners hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets at Amalie Arena. Tampa Bay proved themselves to be an unstoppable force in the regular season, finishing with a total of 128 points – 21 more than the next best team. At home, they picked up points in 34 of 41 games and they will be looking to make quick work of Columbus in the opening round. Take the home side to cruise to a victory on all relevant betting sites in Game 1.

Tip –The Pittsburgh Penguins travel to Long Island to take on the New York Islanders in Game 1 of what could be long and extremely competitive series. These two teams split the season series at two games a piece, each winning twice on home ice. Few expected the Islanders to even make the playoffs after John Tavares left for Toronto, let alone finishing second in a tough Metropolitan Division. They will be in tough though against an experienced Penguins’ side that underachieved during the regular season. While the Penguins should still find a way to get past New York in the opening round, they probably won’t get the job done in Game 1. Expect Nassau Coliseum to be rocking and the Islanders to take full advantage of home ice.

Tip –Both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins finished the regular season with 100+ points. However, with Tampa Bay dominating the Atlantic Division these two original six rivals will meet in the opening round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Toronto picked up John Tavares in the offseason to help give them the extra push in the postseason and it remains to be seen whether the centre will be able to have the impact that the club is hoping for when the games really matter. It will be a physical and hard-fought series but take the home side to pick up the win in the first game. They won all three games against the Maple Leafs during the season that were played at TD Garden and until Toronto proves they have the mental fortitude to win in Boston, the Bruins have to be the favourites.

Tip –The Carolina Hurricanes were one of the last teams to clinch a playoff berth and were awarded with a first round date against the defending Stanley Cup Champions. The Washington Capitals didn’t always look great during the regular season, but they still found a way to top the Metropolitan Division and will be confident of their chances of going the distance for the second consecutive season. They are an experienced side that understands nothing matters up until this point. They swept the season series against the Hurricanes this year, winning all four games played – including two on home ice. Take the home side to continue their dominance of Carolina on all your favourite betting sites.

Tip –In one of the most intriguing first round playoff series, two of the biggest favourites in the Western Conference lock horns. San Jose got a big boost to their playoff hopes in the final day of the regular season with Erik Karlsson returning to the lineup after a long spell on the sidelines. Both teams were considerably better at home than on the road throughout the campaign and expect that to be the case in the postseason as well. This series could go the distance but take the home side to get the job done in this one.

Tip –This series could be over before it even starts with Washington looking to back-to-back. Much like in the first game of the series, the home side shouldn’t have much issue getting past a Carolina side who is fortunate to still be playing in the first place. Alexander Ovechkin continues to prove he is one of the best in the game – even if he is turning 34 in September. Until Carolina proves they are capable of beating the Capitals, continue to roll with Washington.
