Tip – It’s only right that the biggest star of this draft class, Trae Young, gets his first taste of NBA action in the Mecca. Young should have his moments under the bright lights, and his 3-point range will add a spark to a relatively inept roster. Overall, the Knicks, yes the Knicks, may have too much firepower for the lackluster Hawks. A 3-headed rotation at the 1-guard, mixed with Kevin Knox’s ability to be a pseudo point-forward, should impose too many mismatches for Atlanta to handle.

Tip – The Bulls are a team on the come up, with plenty of young talent. If Jabari Parker can recapture his pre injury form, Chicago may be a team to reckon with. For now that’s up in the air. Philly’s two stars will cause mismatch nightmares for Chicago. The Bulls do not have any big men that can bang with Embiid down low for nearly 48 minutes, and without a guard over 6’5, Ben Simmons should get to the hole at will.

Tip – LeBron will don the purple and gold for the first time in a regular season game on Thursday night. He will also enter the game as an underdog, something unusual for a LeBron-led team. There will undoubtedly be growing pains for the young Lakers roster, and playing with LeBron can be as much of a struggle as a blessing at times. Portland’s star- studded backcourt should get shots up effortlessly all night. Still, LeBron should be enough to will his team to victory when he knows the whole world will be watching.

Tip – The Knicks travel to their Tri-state rivals for their second game of the season. The Nets, while mostly forgotten about league-wide, have accumulated a plethora of young talent. Recently cleared from injury, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson will be running the wing against Knicks rookie Kevin Knox for an intriguing matchup. Look for DeAngelo Russell to impose matchup problems for a Knicks team still trying to find their best rotation at the point guard spot. Brooklyn should keep it close at the very least.

Tip – Two of the biggest stars of the NBA return to action after essentially missing all of last season. Gordon Hayward and his Boston Celtics face off against Kawhi Leonard and his Raptors in Toronto. Look for the quiet and collected Leonard to shut up all the negative noise surrounding his name. Leonard should lock down Boston’s lethal wing players, while Kyle Lowry should use his bulky frame to penetrate the lanes against Kyrie Irving.

Tip – Golden State will obviously be favored in this matchup, but don’t sleep on Utah. While not carrying the same name-power as Golden State, Utah is still one of the deeper teams in the NBA. Donovan Mitchell, a 20.5 ppg scorer from a season ago, should only improve in his second season. Utah also posses length at the wing with Joe Ingles and Jae Crowder, and should at the very least contain Kevin Durant. That’s not to say that Utah will win, but it will go down to the wire.
