Atlético Madrid vs Real Madrid: Predictions, Odds and Betting Tips

Wanda Metropolitano Stadium
The return of the Madrid derby – and with Barcelona looking unstoppable at the top of La Liga this is more about bragging rights than title aspirations.
Atletico Madrid look unlikely to catch Barcelona at the top of the table but are favourites to finish runners up with a healthy points gap between them and their city rivals. They have already beaten Real in the UEFA Super Cup at the start of the season and will expect a raucous home crowd to cheer them on to victory here.
Real Madrid are not enjoying the happiest of seasons. As low as ninth at one stage this season, the 5-1 defeat to Barcelona was probably as bad as it gets for Los Blancos. Defeat to Atletico will be hard to take as well though, so Santiago Solari’s side will be desperate to get something out of this match.
Bookies cannot see past Barcelona winning La Liga this season but have more faith in Atletico than a misfiring Real to compete with the Catalan side. Diego Simeone’s men have been very hard to break down as usual so a close, low-scoring match can be expected.
There was a hope that the likes of Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema would flourish with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving in the summer – and although those two have shone at times, there has been little to shout about at the Santiago Bernabeu this season. Real could struggle here and although it won’t be a thrashing like the Barcelona match, they could lose this 1-0.
Atletico to win
Anything can happen in a local derby but Atletico have one of the tightest defences in European football. Real Madrid have not looked good this season so a home win seems the most likely result.
Total goals under 1.5
Online betting sites seem to think that there will be goals in this match but with Atletico’s defence – and Real Madrid’s problems – this should be a low scoring affair.

Head to Head
Atletico have enjoyed the Madrid derby in recent times and have not lost at home since 2016. The game earlier in the season ended 0-0.
Sergio Ramos receives a lot of criticism for his style of play but Real Madrid have picked up fewer yellow cards than any other team in La Liga this season.
Atletico Madrid have only lost one game all season – early on against Celta Vigo – and have the longest unbeaten run in the league.
Real Madrid need their midfielders to make more of an impression on the goal scoring charts. Benzema and Bale lead the way but their third highest goal scorer is Sergio Ramos.
Atletico have only allowed more than one goal on three occasions this season – once in the 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo and also in the 3-2 victories over Athletic Bilbao and Real Valldolid.
