On Thursday, November 16, the downtrodden Arizona Coyotes will make their way to the Bell Center for a 7.30 pm ET meet with the Montreal Canadiens. With only two wins all season, the Yotes aren’t being given much of a chance to take a win from the Habs on their preferred home ice. With a decent start to November, going 4-2-1 and only losing in regulation to the Minnesota Wild twice, the Canadiens have rookie goalie Charlie Lindgren to thank. With Carey Price out with a lower-body injury after a poor start to the season, and Al Montoya diagnosed with a concussion, Charlie Lindgren has stepped in and played very well. Price’s recovery has hit a bump in the road – even forcing the Habs to pick up the out of favor Antti Niemi off of the waivers on Tuesday – indicating that Price is still quite far away from returning to the crease. So, expect Lindgren to start in the Montreal net on game night, most probably opposite Arizona’s number one goalie Antti Raanta. Despite sitting fourth from bottom in the Eastern Conference standings, the Canadiens aren’t too far away from a wildcard spot regarding points; the only problem is their goals differential. Montreal has a syndicate of top point scorers with Jonathan Drouin, Max Pacioretty, Shea Weber, and Brendan Gallagher all on 12 points each, but they all hosts substantially negative ratings, showing how dire Montreal’s defensive game has been thus far. The Arizona Coyotes are a whole different story. Sitting rock bottom of the NHL with a 2-15-3 record, the Yotes once had so much going for them before the general manager switch and ensuing staff changes in 2016 changed all of that. Still stacked with many of the talents collected by the previous regime that forged the very best prospect pool in the NHL, there are still bright sparks within the Coyotes roster, but it’s tough to back them winning any match-up this season. The Montreal Canadiens will see this game as a way to flex their muscles, and recover from a tough overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier in the week. Both teams have hemorrhaged goals this season, so don’t be surprised if this game is high scoring en route to a Montreal victory.
