Uruguay vs Peru: Predictions, Betting Tips & Odds

Copa America 2019 Quarter Finals
Uruguay vs Peru, Copa America, Arena Pernambuco, Quarter-final

Uruguay and Peru meet in Salvador knowing that they are both just two games away from a Copa America final.

Uruguay have been in fine form so far, with just the 2-2 draw against a young Japan side to ruin a 100% record. The 1-0 victory over Chile in the last game will act as a particular confidence boost and Oscar Tabarez’ men will be expecting to go through to the semi finals.

It will be interesting to see whether that 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Brazil affects the Peru side in any way. Four points collected from the two earlier games ensured their progression but most of the sports betting sites see their journey ending here.

Goals have been shared around in this tournament with the top goal scorers only managing two so far. Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez claim that amount and they will both be wanting to add to their totals against a Peru defence that was repeatedly breached in their last game. These two are the leading all time goals scorers for the national team and will want to add to their impressive tallies here.

Peru finished third in 2011 and 2015 before being knocked out in the quarter finals of the Copa America Centenario in 2016. The bookies fancy a Uruguay win here and striker Jose Paolo Guerrero will have to be on top form if that is not to be the case. This could finish 2-0 to Uruguay

Betting Tips

Uruguay have only conceded to Japan so far in this tournament and should dominate this game.

Uruguay have taken a first half lead in two of their three games so far – but needed a late winner to beat Chile.

Head to Head

Uruguay have traditionally been the stronger side between these two but Peru did win the last fixture 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier in 2017.

  • Uruguay are the most successful nation in South American Championship/Copa America history – but they have only won the competition once in the last 18 years.
  • Peru have only won the continental championship on two occasions – the last being back in 1975 when the tournament was held in various different countries.
  • The last time the Copa America was held in Brazil in 1989, Uruguay made it all the way to the final before losing to the hosts.
  • Peru has the worst defensive record of any team in the quarter finals – but five of their six conceded goals came in one match against Brazil.
