Spring Carnival - Caulfield Guineas – Predictions

The Melbourne Cup Spring Racing Carnival gets into full swing this coming Saturday, 13 October 2018 with the annual running of one of the feature-races the entire Spring Carnival, the Caulfield Guineas.

The Caulfield Guineas is a Group 1 race and it’s the major three-year-old race of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It’s a great race for future sires and the tight confines of Caulfield with its narrow-and-compact bends, make for close-and-exciting racing. There’s rarely a runaway win by 5-or-6-lengths at Caulfield.

The best lead-up race for Caulfield Guineas form is the Prelude over 1400m, with seven winners since the year 2000 winning the Guineas after backing up from a win at the Prelude.

This year’s Prelude winner was ‘Native Soldier’ (a great-each-way-chance and our best value bet), however, we like ‘The Autumn Sun’, the outstanding-favourite, to be in a different-class than the others and take the win.
