Socceroos vs Czech Republic – Odds, Predictions & Tips
01 June 2018 – 1pm Local time (AEST 9pm)
NV Arena – St Polten – Austria
TV: Fox Sports
The World Cup-bound Socceroos are seeking to finalise their squad and test player combinations. Australia are looking to tune-up for Russia 2018 with a win over the Czech Republic in neutral Austria.
Whilst the match is tagged as an ‘international friendly’ by FIFA, don’t expect the Socceroos to hold anything back. By all reports, training has been intense at Australia’s Turkish training base as three more players must be cut from the Socceroos World Cup squad after the match.
The two times have only met once previously, way back in March 2000, when the Czech Republic prevailed 3-1 in Teplice.
Warming up for the World Cup against strong Czech opposition is similar to what the Socceroos will face in Russia against France, Denmark and Peru at the World Cup.
Coach Bert van Marwijk will have his side ready to defend like demons and attack the Czechs on the counter. Expect Australia to put A LOT of players behind the ball.
Currently ranked behind Australia at 45th in the world and not heading to the World Cup, Karol Jarolim’s tough Czechs generally play much stronger teams than the Socceroos on a regular basis.
Recently, the Czech’s have been in excellent form, winning five of their last six international matches and deserve their $2.00 favouritism for this match.
They will be led in attack by AS Roma star Patrick Schick. The 22-year old is widely regarded as one of the most talented strikers in European football and has scored twice in seven appearances for his national side.
Schick should be joined by Derby frontman Matěj Vydra, who finished top goal scorer this season in the EFL Championship with 21 goals.
Best Bet Tip
Given that Australia will be testing their defensive capabilities, we like the draw as our best bet for this match at the outstanding value of $3.30.
