Round six of Euro 2020 qualifying in Group I has Scotland needing a win over Belgium to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Belgium were beaten by eventual winners France at the semi-final stage of the 2018 World Cup and will be heavily fancied to do well at Euro 2020. The Belgians warm up for this game with an away trip to San Marino on Friday and will no doubt be sitting top of the table on 15 points by the time this tie kicks-off.
AWAY TEAM TO SCORE IN BOTH HALVES
Belgium beat Scotland 3-0 in June in Brussels and have fired in 11 goals in their opening four fixtures in Group I. Belgium have scored seven times in their last two matches against Scotland and that could be why the bookies are expecting goals.
MATCH TO END WITH OVER 3.5 GOALS
Scotland have a home game with Russia on Friday night before facing the Belgians and a loss against the Russians would see them well off the pace in the hunt for a qualifying spot. Belgium will want to score as early as possible to put this tie to bed, while Scotland will have to push hard to get something out of this fixture.
BELGIUM HALF TIME/FULL TIME
Scotland will have their work cut out for them to try and get something out of this game, as Belgium boast some considerable attacking fire power.
GAME TO END 1-3
Head to Head
These sides last met in June in Brussels and the home side ran out 3-0 winners thanks to a Romelu Lukaku brace and a Kevin De Bruyne 92nd minute goal. Belgium take the historical head to head by winning 10 of the last 14 matches between the sides, while Scotland have managed just two victories, while there have only been two draws.
The match to end in a win for Belgium.
Scotland kicked-off their Group I qualifying with a shocking 3-0 loss away to Kazakhstan in March and have been playing catch up ever since. By the time this game with Belgium comes around they could find themselves nine points behind the Belgians and six behind Russia and their qualification hopes would be all but over.
Belgium, you would think, will take care of San Marino on Friday night before heading to Scotland and will be sitting top of the table on 15 points, knowing that a victory over the Scots will more or less guarantee their participation in next summer’s tournament.
