BBL Preview – Heat look to end the Perth Scorchers unbeaten streak
Despite losing a host of stars to injury and the Test team, Justin Langer’s Perth Scorchers are unbeaten in their first four games to start BBL 07 in 2017-18.
Conversely, the Brisbane Heat are winding up and have moved up to third place on the ladder, gathering momentum on the back of the ‘Bash Brothers’, Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum.
Scorchers Key Men
Langer must be absolute delighted with the form of his key quicks in Mitchell Johnson, Jhye Richardson, David Willey and Andrew Tye. Tye’s mix of slower balls, off-paced bouncers and yorkers give batsmen nightmares and have already earnt Tye a second BBL career hat-trick this season.
Veteran Michael Klinger is the highest run-scorer in BBL history and last time out for the Scorchers top-scored with a classy 83 off 61 balls. Ashton Turner is proving to be a revelation, averaging 54 with the bat at the very classy strike rate of 156.52.
Brisbane Heat’s ‘Bash Brothers’
The Brisbane Heat are all about setting their opponents monster totals or mowing-down targets with plenty of balls to spare. Last time out for the Heat against the Stars, Captain Brendon McCullum (61 off 29) promoted his Bash Brother Chris Lynn (63 off 46) to open the Brisbane Heat innings and it appears the union will live on at the top-of-the-order.
The Heat are brilliantly served by their leg-spinners Mitchell Swepson and Yasir Shah who are taking wickets and keeping things tight with the ball.
