Betting Tips

England vs Australia – October 19th

  • England rugby
  • 6:15 PM Oita Stadium Oita Japan
  • Australia Wallabies

Tip – England have been in great form, but Eddie Jones’ men are yet to been seriously tested at this World Cup. We’re certain Eddie would have loved the Typhoon-cancelled match against France to go ahead to toughen his team. The Aussies, on the other hand, had a tough workout against Wales and will be better for the experience, but England should have too much class and forward domination for the Wallabies.

BET NOW ON ENGLAND

New Zealand vs Ireland – October 19th

  • NZ Rugby
  • 9:15 PM Tokyo Stadium Japan
  • ireland rugby

Tip –In a match befitting a final, World Number 1 side before the World Cup began, Ireland, take on perennial favourites and two-time defending champion New Zealand. Ireland have been impressive so far, other than a slip up loss to Japan.

New Zealand keep on rolling on, playing with intent, discipline, flair and tenacious defence. Ireland appeared soft when threatened by Japan, a weakness the All Blacks could and should take advantage of.

BET NOW ON NEW ZEALAND

Wales vs France – October 20th

  • Wales rugby union
  • 6:15 PM Oita Stadium Oita Japan
  • france rugby

Tip – Renown for playing above their weight at World Cups, the French have the best record of any nation not to win a World Cup, so watch out for a potential upset here. The long odds available suggest that France are worth a punt.

Whilst winning all their pool matches, the Welsh were below their best. After almost letting a big lead slip against Australia, and a shoddy performance against Fiji, you can’t help but feel Wales will be back to their best in the knockout stage.

BET NOW ON WALES

Japan vs South Africa – October 20th

  • japan rugby
  • 9:15 PM Tokyo Stadium Japan
  • SA Rugby

Tip – Famous for upset 34-32 defeat of the Springboks at the 2015 World Cup, the bookies appear to have given the Cheery Blossoms little chance of repeating the dose this time around. The last time the two teams met (in a warm-up match to this World Cup), the Springboks accounted for Japan in a 41-7 win. However, in front of a packed home ground in Tokyo, it could be far different.

That said, some teams match up better than others against different opponents, and we fancy that South Africa should have Japan’s measure to end the home nation’s brave World Cup run.

BET NOW ON SOUTH AFRICA

Statistics

  • England have bounced back well to reach the Quarter Finals in 2019 after in 2015 becoming the first sole host nation to be eliminated in the pool stages of a Rugby World Cup.
  • Australia, New Zealand and France are the only nations to have qualified for at least the quarter-finals of every Rugby World Cup. Additionally, South Africa have also done so ever since they started participating in 1995.
  • Of the Tier One nations, Italy is the only nation not to have made it to at least the quarter-finals in any Rugby World Cup thus far. On the other hand, four Tier Two countries have made it to the quarter-finals – Fiji in 1987 and 2007, Canada in 1991, Japan in 2019, and Samoa (then called Western Samoa) in 1991 and 1995.
  • Wales have suffered the most upsets in Rugby World Cup history, having lost to Samoa both in 1991 and 1999, then being beaten by Fiji in 2007. Other major upsets include France losing to Tonga in 2011 (almost happening again in 2019), South Africa losing to Japan in 2015 and Ireland and Scotland losing to Japan in 2019.

Our predictions

 England to win the match

England’s forward strength and scrummaging prowess should find them kicking their way to victory against an undisciplined Wallabies side that gives away too many penalties.

New Zealand to win the match

Ireland are not the what they were 15 months ago when defeating the All Blacks. New Zealand’s class should ultimately prove too much for tough to beat Irish unit.

Wales to win the match

Consistent and disciplined Wales should beat the unpredictable French flair.

South Africa to win the match

In what could be the most entertaining of the quarter finals, South Africa should outlast an enterprising Japanese side.
