Queen Elizabeth Stakes Race History
With prizemoney now increased to $4 million (up from only $500 000 in 2014), the Queen Elizabeth Stakes is the crown jewel and the richest race in Sydney’s Autumn Carnival and the second-richest race in Australian racing behind the Melbourne Cup during the Spring Carnival.
The Queen Elizabeth Stakes (run over 2000 metres) is part of ‘The Championships’, a two-day carnival at Randwick in April of each year that includes 8 Group One races.
The Queen Elizabeth Stakes attracts the finest racehorses from across the nation, with the enormous prizemoney leading to vast attention from the international horses. The Queen Elizabeth Stakes has been won by many legends of Australian Racing that have gone on to be become household names.

Winx to continue her legacy and break more records
Starting in May 2015, Winx has gone on a winning run and won 24 consecutive races including 17 Group 1’s, at distances ranging from 1300 metres to 2200 metres. She was the world’s second-ranked filly or mare in 2015, improving in 2016 becoming both the world’s top-ranked filly or mare and the world’s top-ranked turf horse overall. She retained these dual elite rankings in 2017 and was also inducted to the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, only the third horse to be honoured in this way whilst still involved in active racing.
