Qatar vs Argentina: Predictions, Betting Tips & Odds

Copa America 2019 Qatar vs Argentina
Qatar vs Argentina Copa America 2019, Arena do Grêmio, Group B

Its win or bust for Argentina as they look to avoid an early exit while Qatar target their biggest scalp in international football.

Argentina are staring down the barrel. If Paraguay beat Colombia in the final Group B game, then even victory will not be enough for Lionel Scaloni’s white and sky-blue side.

One defeat and one draw has left Argentina bottom of the group with one to play as even Qatar have scored a goal more than Lionel Messi and co.

It is dire times indeed for the side that have reached four of the last five finals and head coach Scaloni knows he is a man under severe pressure.

Prior to the tournament, the invited Qatar looked like being the whipping boys of Group B but have so far held themselves well and a draw with Paraguay earned Félix Sánchez Bas’ side a well-deserved point.

Whatever happens now, Qatar can hold their heads high but there is still the chance of qualification should they even draw, and Paraguay suffer a heavy loss at the hands of Colombia.

However, despite Argentina’s current woes, it is hard not to back them in this game as they understandably enter the tie as big favourites with popular sportsbooks.

Only a win will do for Argentina and that is the expectation, especially having beaten Qatar 3-0 in their only prior meeting, in 2005.

Qatar will be no push overs though having scored in nine of their last eleven international matches but expect Argentina to get the job done in a 3-1 win.

Betting Tips

Qatar have only scored in the second half of the Copa America this year whilst two of the three goals Argentina have conceded have come in the second 45.

Head to Head

The pair have only ever met once before in an international friendly back in 2005.

The game was played in Doha and unsurprisingly it was Argentina who ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Three second half goals in three minutes from Juan Roman Riquelme, Julio Cruz and Roberto Ayala secured the win for
