Perth Supersprint Wrap & Winton Supersprint Preview – Supercars 2018
Supercars’ annual trip out west to Barbagallo and the Perth Supersprint produced yet another exciting, yet intriguing racing weekend, with Scott McLaughlin asserting himself atop the 2018 championship standings with a pair of stunning drives and a fascinating host of position changes behind him.
McLaughlin dominates at Perth Supersprint – but it wasn’t easy
Ford’s Scott McLaughlin, produced two absolutely stunning drives in last weekend’s Perth Supersprint round at the Barbagallo circuit, the second of which was arguably the greatest drive of the young driver’s short career.
In doing so, the Championship leader came from 19th on the grid to secure an improbable victory – his fourth straight in the series.
McLaughlin crushed the record for the lowest grid start (12th) to win at Perth’s Barbagallo circuit, which was previously shared by Supercars legends Peter Brock (1978) and Larry Perkins (1997).
McLaughlin’s fifth win of the season sees him go 158 points ahead in the Championship standings ahead of the sixth round of the season at Winton on May 18-20.

Looking forward to the Winton Supersprint – 18-20 May 2018
Racing at Winton Motor Raceway is always exciting and close because the circuit has a combination of fast, long straights and tight, twisty bends. It is also known as “Australia’s Action Track”. Dick Johnson once described the circuit being ‘like running a marathon around your clothes-line’. Look for older and more experienced drivers like Craig Lowndes, Whincup and Winterbottom to show better form at Winton.
With McLaughlin firming as Championship favourite. odds for the established drivers have blown out and great odds are available on the likeable Craig Lowndes in particular.
