NRL 2019 – Round 16 Predictions – Odds, Previews & Tips

NRL 2019 Round 16
NRL Season 2019 Round 16

St George-Illawarra Dragons vs Melbourne Storm – July 04

Tip – Despite the match being played in the Dragons South Coast spiritual heartland in Wollongong, we’re predicting the visiting Storm to come away with victory and the crucial two competition points.

It will boil down to the Storm being less affected by player losses to State of Origin, and Cam Smith guiding his team along expertly as he usually does, with or without the Origin stars.

Wests Tigers vs Sydney Roosters – July 05

Tip – Just like the smell of cordite after a gunshot, the whiff of an upset is in the air with the Roosters missing a stack of Origin stars. Can Wests Tigers take advantage of the situation? Perhaps not, with Latrell Mitchell smarting from missing the NSW Blues big Origin win in Perth, he will be wanting to make amends to the selectors and lead his Roosters team to victory.

Newcastle Knights vs New Zealand Warriors – July 06

Tip – The bookies have installed the Knights as nominal favourites for this clash with the Warriors, although in reality, the Warriors being almost unaffected by State of Origin tilts the scale back a little in their favour. Despite the loss of superstar, Kalyn Ponga, to either injury, (although he probably would have been selected for the Queensland State of Origin side anyway), we like the Knights to have a win in front of their adoring fans in Newcastle.

Cronulla Sharks vs Brisbane Broncos – July 07

Tip – The Sharks will be less affected by the loss of Origin stars than the Broncos. Just as the Storm have an ex-Origin captain in Cameron Smith to guide them around the park at this difficult time of year for club teams, the Sharks have the luxury of former NSW skipper Paul Gallen to ease them through. Take the Cronulla team to have a comfortable win at home over the visiting Brisbane Broncos.
