Norwich dusted off a heavy opening day defeat to Liverpool with a morale-boosting home win over Newcastle and as Chelsea visit Carrow Road from the capital, all the pressure is on a winless Frank Lampard and his Blues side as the Canaries aim to steal another collection of points.
One thing that is noticeable when these two meet is the lack of goals. Only one of the last five head to heads has seen over two goals and based on the sides’ current campaigns, there is little to suggest that will change (especially looking at Chelsea’s record). The Blues have scored just once in the Premier League this season as Frank Lampard deals with the loss of playmaker Eden Hazard in the summer and the general feeling is the Canaries may play a little deeper in order to contain the Blues. That means a low scoring affair is the best way to go with popular sportsbooks.
UNDER 2.5 GOALS IN THE GAME
Although we believe this game will see under 2.5 goals we do believe the game will result in a score draw. That means our prediction is for a 1-1 score but in order to cover yourself on a higher scoring affair back the general score with goals bet on offer from online betting sites. Chelsea have recorded scoring draws in their last two competitive games inside 90 minutes and the pair drew 1-1 the last time they met in an FA Cup tie (although Chelsea went on to win on penalties).
ANY SCORE DRAW
Norwich’s hitman Teemu Pukki has proved a revelation since joining the Canaries on a free at the beginning of last season. After firing Norwich to the Championship title last campaign to netting four goals in two Premier League appearances, Pukki is a man on form and not backing would make little sense. A hattrick against Newcastle was all we needed to see to know that Pukki is the real deal.
TEEMU PUKKI TO SCORE ANYTIME
Head to Head
The 2015/16 season was the last time the two met in the Premier League. Chelsea won both home and away games first 1-0 at Stamford Bridge before winning 2-1 at Carrow Road. However, the pair did meet during the 2017/18 FA Cup in which Chelsea won the third-round clash 5-3 on penalties after a 0-0 at Carrow Road saw a reply end 1-1 at Stamford Bridge to force the penalty shootout. Remarkably, Norwich have not beaten Chelsea in any competition since winning 3-0 in a league game in December 1994.
Match to finish 1-1
Chelsea are taking a little time to find their feet under Frank Lampard and the loss of star man Eden Hazard to Real Madrid has done little to help the cause. However, the Blues have impressed in their last two outings but then again so did Norwich last time out. A 3-1 home win over Newcastle was a relatively dominant display and one that will have bred confidence. Chelsea are different proposition to Newcastle so expect a tighter line but with the likes of Teemu Pukki in their squad, the Canaries will know they have a goal in them which could be enough to snatch a point on home soil.
