Newcastle vs Watford: Predictions, Betting Tips & Odds
Watford travel north for their FA Cup fourth round tie against Newcastle at St James’ Park but both sides might have other priorities.
Newcastle fans have been waiting a long time for some silverware – the last time they won the FA Cup was in 1955. But Rafa Benitez will think that a home tie against fellow Premier League side Watford is a good draw for the Magpies. They may be concentrating more on staying in the top flight but a good cup run could do wonders for their confidence.
Watford have never won anything more important than the old Second Division and a Championship Play Off final but they have made it to the FA Cup final – losing to Everton in 1984. Javi Gracia will still believe that his side could make an outside run for a Europa League spot – even if the online betting sites don’t seem to be so confident – so it would not be a surprise if he fields a second string for this one.
Newcastle needed a replay and extra time to see off a spirited Blackburn Rovers in the third round so will be hoping that they can get the job done in 90 minutes against Watford. Rafa Benitez’ side face Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the league after this cup tie so some of the big players might be rested for Watford’s visit.
Watford navigated a potentially tricky third round match away at Woking without too much trouble and would have liked a home draw in the fourth round. Instead they have a long journey up to Newcastle and it may soon be evident to see whether the Hornets are really up for this. Expect a 2-1 home win here.
The soccer betting on this match can go in one of two ways.
- Newcastle to win
Newcastle are a good price for the home win considering they are facing a side who are more focused on the Premier League, with the Magpies buoyed by beating Cardiff.
- Both teams to score
Neither of these sides are setting the goal scoring charts alight but with some potentially inexperienced defensive units on show there could be goals at both ends.
