Lakers are riding high, coming in on a four game win streak, while the Heat are in the midst of what may very well be a lost season.

Predictions

The Lakers have now defeated the second best team (based on record) in the West, the Portland Trail Blazers, twice this season. Los Angeles took down Portland handily, winning by nine points on Wednesday. The Lakers have seemed to find their rotation, and figured put what pieces work in what spots while playing off of LeBron. One of those pieces that have fit in quite nicely is JaVale McGee, believe it or not. McGee is averaging nearly 26 minutes a game, and coming off one game where he put up a season high 20 points, and another game where he had nine rebounds and three blocks.

The Heat believed they had a promising young roster that would be able to make some noise in the East this season, but after losing four of their last five games, they’re just hoping not to fall into NBA mediocrity. One bright spot for Miami has been the play of Josh Richardson, averaging nearly 21 points a game, and leading the Eastern Conference in on/off net rating.

LeBron will dominant in his return to South Beach, likely drawing Rodney McGruder as a defender. McGruder, who stands 6’4 and is already undersized for the small forward position, will be overwhelmed when attempting to guard the 6’8 250 lb. James. With Rajon Rondo out with a hand injury, Brandon Ingram, the 6’9 wing, will play more of a point forward position moving forward. The length of LA will cause too many mismatches for an undersized Miami Heat lineup.

Score prediction: Lakers win 117-111

Betting Tips

  • Los Angeles Lakers at Miami Heat: Take Lakers

You’re giving me LeBron James, a Lakers team whose won four games in a row, and two points? Sign me up! The Heat have really struggled as of late. They lean on Josh Richardson, who has been impressive, but they are asking too much of the young budding star. The Lakers young core, always filled with potential, has begun too ooze with success. The combo of JaVale McGee and Tyson Chandler as defenders in the post should negate any semblance of offense Hassan Whiteside tries to create on the low block.

  • Over/Under 228 points: Take the OVER

I currently have this game as a push, but it’s highly likely they go over 228 combined points. Miami and Los Angeles both rank in the top ten in scoring on the season. The Lakers are one game removed from dropping 126 points on Portland, while the Heat have scored at least 110 points in three of their last four games.

Statistics

Head to Head

These two teams have faced off only 60 times throughout the years, with the Lakers holding a slight edge over the Heat, to the tune of a 33-27 record. The Teams have split their season series in each of the past three seasons, both going 3-3 over that time span
