Juventus Stadium – Torino
Group J

Italy welcome Bosnia & Herzegovina to the Allianz Stadium in Turin for this Euro 2020 qualifier.

Italy currently sit on top of Group J with two wins out of two, but they play Greece on Saturday night before turning their attention to this tie with Bosnia. They beat Finland 2-0 in their opening game and followed that up with a 6-0 hammering of Liechtenstein at home in their second and at time of writing are on a six-match unbeaten run, which includes four wins and two draws.

Bosnia are currently sitting in third place in Group J on four points, behind Italy who are on six and separated by goal difference with Greece who also have four, they travel to Finland before taking on the Italians. They kicked off their Euro 2020 qualifying journey with a 2-1 victory at home over Armenia, they followed that up with a 2-2 draw at home to Greece. They are unbeaten in their last seven competitive matches since losing to 4-3 Belgium in a World Cup qualifier in 2017.

The Azzurri finished in second place in their Nations League A group on five points, three behind table toppers Portugal who beat Switzerland in the Semi-finals this week to reach the Final, but ahead of Poland who were relegated to League B. The Italians drew 1-1 at home to Poland in their first game, then lost 1-0 at home to Portugal, before beating the Poles 1-0 away and drawing 1-1 at home with Portugal.

Bosnia topped their Nations League B group and were promoted into League A – by finishing on 10 points, ahead of Austria who ended up with seven points and Northern Ireland who were relegated to League C on zero points. Bosnia beat the Northern Irish 2-1 in Belfast, before beating Austria 1-0 at home. A 2-0 home victory over Northern Ireland put them in the driving seat to win the group and they held the Austrians to a goalless draw to seal promotion to the top tier. A 1-0 win for Italy is well worth a shout.

Betting Tips

Italy always have a tough time when playing teams from the Balkans, winning just twice in 13 matches played against Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia over the years.

Despite their poor record against teams from the former Yugoslavia they do have an excellent home qualifying record and that could be why the bookies  are offering odds for the Total Goals under 1.5 market.

Head to Head

These sides have only met once before in a friendly international played in Sarajevo back in 1996 and it was the Bosnians who ran out 2-1 winners.

  • Italy haven’t lost a European Championship Qualification match since losing to France 3-1 in September of 2006, which is a run of 32 games, winning 26 of them and drawing the other six.
  • Bosnia have only won two of their last eight away games in European Championship qualifying and that poor form extends into winning four of their last 15. Those victories have all come against minnows, a 2-0 win away to Denmark 2003 is their biggest away victory in the competition.
  • Italy will be hoping they can lift some silverware for the first time since winning the World Cup in 2006 and get back to a final for the first time since losing to Spain 4-0 in the 2012 European Championship held in Poland.
  • Bosnia will be looking to qualify for their first ever European Championships and have just one World Cup appearance under their belt, when they came third in the group in 2014 behind Argentina and Nigeria.
