Newcastle Jets and the Melbourne Victory will battle it out in the Hyundai A-League 2018 Grand Final after thrilling Semi Final wins this weekend.

Australian soccer’s showpiece clash will be held at Newcastle International Sports Centre on Saturday, 5 May at 7:50pm (AEST).

The Jets were the first team through to the decider following their come-from-behind 2-1 win over Melbourne City on Friday night. The Jets ended Sydney FC’s 27-month long domination of the A-League and re-ignited questions about the A-League’s finals format (For an Australian sporting marketplace used to the finals of AFL, NRL, Basketball and Netball)

Jets’ Riley McGree’s ‘scorpion goal’ kick-started Newcastle’s fightback before Jason Hoffman scored the winner to send the Jets through to their first Grand Final since 2008.

Whilst the Jets insist they are not a fairytale story like the EPL’s Leicester City, after years of changing ownership and financial hardships.

However, if nothing else, the Newcastle sporting public love their teams and the faithful Jets supporters will turn up in droves to support their upstart heroes. As the higher-ranked team on the ladder, Jets will host the Grand Final and a bumper crowd of over 25 000 is expected.

The Jets are $1.80 deserved favourites with Bookmaker.com.au to take out the Grand Final on the back of the massive home ground support.

Melbourne Victory’s Miracle Win over Sydney FC

Melbourne

The Newcastle Jets will take on three-time champions, the Melbourne Victory ($2.00 underdogs with Bookmaker.com.au) to win the ‘big dance’), who sensationally knocked out Sydney FC with a heart-stopping 3-2 extra-time win at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

Victory midfielder Terry Antonis turned from zero-to-hero against his old side, scoring a stunning winner in the 117th minute, sparking wild scenes of celebration.

Victory were seconds away from advancing inside normal time before Antonis sent the ball into his own net to send the game into extra-time.

Extra-time was a nervous affair with both teams to seemingly settle for penalties, only for Antonis to once make his mark on the game again with an unforgettable winner.
