Multiple African Cup of Nations winner Egypt and two-time World Cup winner Uruguay meet in World Cup Group A action of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The two teams have only met once previously, way back in August 2006, when Uruguay prevailed 2-0.
The recent form guide shows Uruguay warming up nicely with comfortable wins over the Czech Republic and Wales, whilst Egypt strung together losses to Greece and Portugal.
Egypt comes to the World Cup with high expectations, due to the form and emergence of Liverpool goal-scoring-machine and superstar, Mohamed Salah. Coached by experienced Argentine manager Hector Cuper, the Pharaohs are in one of the weaker groups and are looking to do more than merely ‘make up the numbers’ in Russia.
2018 marks 68 years since Uruguay, a nation of only 3.5 million people, last won the World Cup. However, this is one of the most talented teams in the competition, with Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani and Diego Godin. The two-time champs have what it takes to make a deep run in 2018.
Preview & Predictions
Given the warm-up results and breezing through qualifying, it is only reasonable that Uruguay are the strong favourites ($1.73) with Betstar.
However, Egypt are well-organised with a great defence down and superb on the counter with Salah leading the way. Egypt could surprise.
Uruguay look too strong in this one and would be a good bet to take the win.
Given the form that Mohamed Salah has been in for Liverpool this season, Egypt getting on the scoresheet in a Uruguay 2-1 win ($9.00 with Betstar) or a Uruguay 3-1 win ($17.00 with Betstar) offers fantastic value.
- Mohamed Salah 40+ goals for Liverpool in 2017-18 makes him a potential Ballon d’Or contender alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
- Uruguay qualified 12 times for World Cups and have won twice.
- Egypt are making just their second World Cup appearance.
- Uruguay to win the WC – $26.00
- Egypt to progress from Group A – $2.10
