Barcelona vs Dortmund: Betting Tips, Odds & Predictions

Barcelona vs Dortmund Champion League
Barcelona vs Dortmund, Champions League, Camp Nou

Barcelona may find this group one of the most difficult it has faced in recent history and any points away from home will be treated like gold dust by head coach Ernesto Valverde.

Our Betting Tips

Dortmund really took the fight to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season before ultimately fading away – and this young side will feel confident that it can take all three points in front of their own fans.

With such an array of attacking talent on display from both sides it doesn’t seem likely that either goalie will be able to keep a clean sheet in this one.

Barcelona will be desperate to regain the Champions League after some disappointing performances in the last few years. But Dortmund will see this game as a great opportunity to kick off the group on a very positive note. Barca should score but the home fans could be very happy at the end of this match.

Head to Head

For two clubs who perennially qualify for the Champions League it is odd that Dortmund and Barcelona have never met in the competition. In fact the only meetings between the two clubs was in the 1997 UEFA Super Cup when the Spanish club won 3-1 on aggregate.

  • Before the international break Dortmund had won their two opening games of the season before surprisingly losing to newly promoted Union Berlin.
  • Barcelona had an even more mixed start to the season, beating Betis but losing to Athletic Bilbao and only managing a draw away at Osasuna.
  • Since getting to the final in 2013 Borussia Dortmund have not managed to make it further than the quarter final stage – and lost in the round of 16 to Spurs last season.
  • Barcelona have never failed to progress from the group stage of the Champions League – but have not lifted the trophy since 2015.

Our Prediction for Barcelona vs Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund to win

It seems incredible to think that Barcelona could struggle in the group stage of the Champions League this season – but Borussia Dortmund and Inter will fancy their chances against the Catalan side. Every point will be priceless and if Dortmund do get the win at home it will send a huge message to the rest of the competition.
