 Christchurch – New Zealand – 04 August 2018

The Crusaders called on a tough defensive effort to defeat the Lions 37-19 in the Super Rugby Final and clinch a record-extending ninth title. South Africa’s visiting Lions dominated long periods of a forward-dominated decider in Christchurch’s on Saturday but couldn’t match the big-match composure and killer instinct of the hosts. Following yet another outstanding performance from Number 10 Richie Mo’unga, the Crusaders scored four tries to two. It’s the type of performance that makes the New All Blacks favourites for The Rugby Championship.

The Rugby Championship Preview

The Rugby Championship (TRC) is the annual tournament to decide the Southern Hemisphere’s best international side. It is annually contested by New Zealand, Argentina, South Africa and Australia.

Before the 2012 tournament, when Argentina entered The Rugby Championship for the first time, it was known simply as the ‘Tri Nations’.

The inaugural Tri Nations tournament in 1996 was won by New Zealand. South Africa on its first Tri Nations in 1998, and Australia its first in 2000. The TRC comprises a round robin format in which all the teams play each other both home and away and inside the tournament Australia and New Zealand also compete for the Bledisloe Cup. The first TRC in 2012 was won by New Zealand and Australia won the 2015 TRC (their only TRC win).

This year sees the New Zealand’s All Blacks as deserved favourites for the title.
