Jan Breydel Stadium
Club Brugge transfer into the Europa League to continue their continental season and welcome a rampant Salzburg side to the Jan Breydel Stadium.
Club Brugge finished a creditable third in a Champions League group that included Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Monaco. Their six points extends their European adventure but they have now been paired with one of the best sides in the Europa League and will need to be on top form to get through to the next round.
Red Bull Salzburg were one of just two sides to win all six group matches – averaging almost three goals a game as they eased into the knock out stage. The Austrian club will be confident of progressing even after being drawn with a Champions League side and may well even get a positive result in this away leg.
Club Brugge have struggled for form since coming back from the winter break – dropping points at home in the league to both Gent and Charleroi. This has seen them fall further behind Genk at the top of the Belgian First Division and a good performance against Salzburg might do a lot to give them renewed confidence for the rest of the season.
Salzburg’s brand of football has seen them sweep all before them domestically recently – winning their fifth successive Austrian title last season. They look well on their way to winning another this year and could get a 2-1 win in Bruges to set themselves up nicely for the second leg.
- Red Bull Salzburg to win
It is only the calibre of opposition that has lengthened the odds of a Salzburg win – even away from home.
- Total goals over 3.5
Club Brugges struggled to find the net during their Champions League campaign and that might be why the bookies are offering relatively high prices for goals here.

Head to Head
These two sides have never played each other.
- Salzburg have been the form side in the Europa League for a few seasons now and Israel international Munas Dabbur is the top scorer in this year’s competition with six.
- Club Brugges scored just six goals in their six Champions League group matches – and four of them came against a woeful Monaco in the final game.
- Salzburg are looking to improve on last year’s valiant effort in the Europa League when they made it all the way to the semi final before being knocked out by Marseille.
- Club Brugge are the only Belgian side to ever play in a European final – they lost to Liverpool in the 1978 European Cup.
