FOR ALL MATCH ODDS
It has felt like a long wait for Bayern Munich to make it six European Cups but 2019/20 gives Niko Kovac’s men the chance to go all the way and a comfortable home win against Red Star Belgrade is the early expectation.
Bayern’s home record in the group stages of the Champions League is a marvel in itself. The German giants have won 14 of their last 15 home group games, drawing the other. It is that kind of record that has Bayern Munich right up there once again in the outright betting markets with popular sportsbooks to make it a sixth European title. However, through the years, Red Star have proven something of a thorn in Bayern’s side having scored in all but one of the sides previous head to heads.
BAYERN MUNICH TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
Bayern have been on the war path early on this season at the Allianz Arena. In just two home Bundesliga games, the German record league winners have netted eight times including a 6-1 thumping of Mainz on their last appearance in front of their home fans. That means ominous times indeed for Red Star who themselves have not struggled in front of goal early on this season.
OVER 3.5 GOALS
A little bit of an outside bet this one but one that has a genuine chance of paying out. Bayern may have hammered Mainz 6-1 in their last home game but they were stunned by their Bundesliga rivals by taking an early lead. It proved that Niko Kovac’s men are not bullet proof and they can be caught off guard quickly making for an intriguing way to get value with online betting sites. Red Star have also scored first in their last two games in all competitions making this worth an outside look at.
RED STAR TO SCORE FIRST
Head to Head
The pair famously met in the semi-finals of this competition in 1990/91 with Red Star winning through 4-3 on aggregate thanks to a 2-2 draw on home soil and a 2-1 win on German soil. Red Star went on to lift the trophy that year. However, the pair last met in Group F of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup with Bayern winning 3-2. Overall, Bayern has beaten Red Star twice, drawing once and losing twice.
Bayern to win 4-1
Bayern Munich’s record of 15 Champions League group games without defeat tells its own story but what is more impressive is that 14 of those undefeated results have been victories. The fact remains that Red Star are not the team they were at the beginning of the 1990’s and those in group B will look at Crvena Zvezda as arguably the weakest in the group. Anything other than a Bayern Munich win by a comfortable margin on home soil would be a shock but we do not see any other result.
