India – 2.50

- India has won only once at Adelaide Oval and lost on seven occasions out of the eleven games they have played at this venue
- Virat Kohli is leading contender for best batsmen in 1st Innings for Indians with 1.73 odds. On the Australian side Usman Khawaja, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh are sharing odds of 3.75
- Mitchell Starc is expected to be Australia’s best bowler in the 1st innings with odds of 3.25 while on the Indian side Ravichandran Ashwin is leading with 4.00
It isn’t often that the Australian team starts a Test series having lost last four out of their five games. But Aussie skipper Tim Paine is steering the team through a difficult phase. They aren’t miles ahead of the Indians as would have been the case in previous series between the two sides Down Under. They lost the last Test series against Pakistan in UAE and yielded the momentum to the Indians in the last game of the T20 series. But the skipper would know India’s vulnerability against quality pace attack and would like to exploit this in Adelaide and take a lead in the 4 Test Match series.
Usman Khawaja’s return to the side is a big bonus for the team as Aaron Finch hasn’t looked in great touch during the T20 but they are a formidable opening pair. It is the middle order where the Australians have headaches with Shaun Marsh, Marcus Harris and Travis Head not in the best nick. Paine along with the lower order will have to share the mantle of the batting. In terms of their bowling Mitchell Starc, Peter Siddle and Pat Cummins form a great pace attack and with Nathan Lyon in the side who has a good record against the Indians the side would feel confident about its bowling going into the Adelaide Test Match.
Virat Kohli would go into the 1st Test Match with a mix of worries and confidence. On the positive side he is leading perhaps India’s finest pace bowling attack in decades that has the potential to pick 20 wickets in a game. On the negative side the batting order apart from Kohli himself has shown signs of tentativeness. Another thing that would worry Kohli is the performance of the team in a series opener. In South Africa and England the team put lot of pressure upon itself by losing the 1st Test Match. But having started well in the T20 series the Indian skipper would like to spread the infectious positive energy and start the series with a win.
Prithvi Shaw impressed during his first Test series in but it is the form of his opening partner KL Rahul that would be worrying the side. Cheteshwar Pujara who has a poor record in Australia will have to improve for the team to do well. The batting would revolve around Kohli who has a phenomenal record in Australia. Rishab Pant and Ajinkya Rahane have support the skipper well given that India is playing with a long tail if Ravichandran Ashwin doesn’t make it to the XI. It is the Indian bowling that makes the side strong with Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah in the pace attack. Kuldeep Yadav would trouble the opposition like he has done in the T20 series.
Our Prediction for Australia vs India, 1st Test Match
Australia would win the 1st Test Match
The most awaited Test Match series is all set to begin as Australians take on India at Adelaide Oval. The sides drew level in the T20 series but it is the Indian side that came out with more positives. Australia on the other hand is struggling in absence of Smith and Warner who are serving bans. Conventional online cricket betting tips would put Indian team ahead but given their poor record in series openers away from home the hosts would feel confident about their prospects in the 1st Test Match. In a stark contrast with the past, Indians would start with a more balanced bowling line-up in the game. It should be a cracker of a contest at Adelaide with little to choose between the two sides at the moment.
Both the teams are equally matched but given India’s poor record while starting a series away from home the Australians would just start nose ahead in the 1st Test Match
