Aussie Daniel Ricciardo sensationally wins Chinese F1 Grand Prix
by Ken Edwards, 16 April 2018
Young Aussie Red Bull Formula 1 Driver with the ‘shoey’ celebration and an infectious killer smile, Daniel Ricciardo, jokes that he doesn’t ‘win his races the easy way’.
After the sixth win of his career at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, it’s becoming apparent that he’s spot-on and a trend is beginning to develop.
In his F1 wins, Ricciardo has begun from outside the top three on the starting grid. His drive from sixth to victory in Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix was from the equal lowest position in the history of the race in Shanghai.
The Red Bull driver put on a stunning overtaking clinic, moving from sixth to first with a stunning series of audacious passing manoeuvres, storming past teammate Max Verstappen, Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel, F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and finally, Valtteri Bottas.
Ricciardo – F1’s ‘Entertainer’
Young Daniel Ricciardo already has developed a cult following among Formula 1 race fans for his podium ‘shoey’ celebrations. The smiling Australian’s signature celebration involves the drinking of podium champagne from a sweaty racing boot.
It has become clearly apparent now, if the young Aussie had a competitive car (like a Mercedes or Ferrari), he would be unbeatable.
His pass in the Chinese Grand Prix on World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, on the turn 14 hairpin from well back was particularly audacious, seemingly catching the four-time world champion by complete and utter surprise.
Formula 1 World Drivers Championship thrown wide open
With Ricciardo’s victory in Shanghai, the Formula 1 World Drivers Championship has been thrown wide open with Ricciardo himself taking a massive jump in the odds.
We await with bated-breath the rest of the season and are looking forward to young Dan tearing up the circuits worldwide.
