We’ve also included an overview of how AFL betting generally works and how to take advantage of the odds or promotions.

What are the best AFL Betting Sites?

Bet365 is an excellent choice for AFL betting mainly due to the overall betting experience. They have a well designed mobile app, great odds, huge markets, a multi builder and more.

Unibet is a similar option to Bet365 as the betting experience is very familiar. At Unibet, you’ll find a unique sports statistics section along with live betting odds and a huge range of AFL betting markets.

Meanwhile, PlayUp has recently upgraded their website in time for the 2022 season and they’re a good choice if you want to support an Aussie operator.

Once known as sportsbetting.com.au, Boombet rebranded a few years ago and contains nice features for AFL betting.

Otherwise, Winnersbet is a good option for punters that are looking for a simple AFL betting interface with the added bonus of a rewards system.

AFL Betting Sites FAQs

Can I also bet on the AFLW?

You sure can! The AFLW league has seen remarkable growth in recent years, expanding from 10 teams in the 2019 season to 14 teams in 2020 and further expanding to 18 teams in 2022. This rapid expansion has also improved how Australian betting sites offer markets and odds for the regular season/finals. The league is also one of the most renowned women's football competitions globally. With an impressive audience of over 1 million attendees already, the AFLW has impressive attention and support from the AFL community. The season typically kicks off in September, coinciding with the AFLM finals, and concludes around the beginning of December, aligning with the start of Summer.

What is an AFL Quad bet?

AFL Quad betting requires you to nominate the winning team and margin for four selected matches each week. Not yet a widespread AFL betting type, but it is beginning to become more popular with each passing year.

Is it possible to place a bet on who will win the AFL Rising Star award?

Yes, usually before the AFL home-and-away season begins and then again two weeks before the Rising Star Award is announced (around late September each year) your favourite online betting site may have betting odds available for the Rising Star Award for the league’s most impressive newcomer.

What will be the AFL rule changes for 2024?

At this stage, there likely aren’t going to be major rule changes for the 2024 season. There’s more of a focus on rule tweaks and player safety, such as:

  • Less Tribunal hearings
  • A look at rundown tackles to reduce the chances of concussions
  • High contact rule tweaks, again to avoid concussions

Can I also bet on the Coleman Medal in 2024 for the AFL’s leading goalkicker?

Yes, odds are already available for the Coleman Medal. Get the latest 2024 Coleman Medal betting tips and preview for the 2024 season right here.

AFL betting strategy

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that your AFL betting will always result in financial success, however, there are a range of actions that you can take to increase your chances of winning, maximising your wins and minimizing your losses. For example, if you bet as early as possible in the season on futures markets such as the AFL winners or Top 4 or Top 8 betting markets will help you always receive the best odds.

Always keep yourself informed as much as possible and follow our weekly AFL odds, previews and tips articles to get a guide from our panels of experts on AFL best bets.

Keep personal bias out of your footy betting decisions as much as you possibly can. Betting against the Collingwood Magpies or Hawthorn just because you cannot stomach either team (rather than depending on current form and match-ups) is a sure-fire way to throw your money away.

One of the best and most successful AFL betting strategies is to make your bets as ‘educated guesses’ rather than blind luck.

If you punt to the level of your AFL betting experience, keep yourself informed with unbiased weekly betting previews written by experts and above all, have fun and enjoy what you are doing by always punting within your means and consider your bets as ‘entertainment expenses’, you’ll go a long towards becoming a successful and happy AFL bettor.

Gamble less, and be an informed punter enjoying smarter and wiser AFL betting should be your long-term goal.

AFL Betting Sites Live Streaming

Until the recent surge in popularity of AFL match live streaming and the inclusion of live streaming services in your mobile phone plans, in the past some of Australia’s best online betting sites (in particular Bet365 or Unibet) offered live streaming of AFL matches

However, following an exclusive agreement between Telstra, the AFL and live streaming company, Kayo, online betting sites can no longer offer AFL live-streaming services to their members. It is unlikely that will change in the future, but if does, we will be sure to let you know.

Live streaming of other sports as a signed-up member of an online betting site, like Unibet or Bet365 is still possible and fans of NBA, tennis, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, horse racing, greyhounds and more can still get live streaming through their online bookie for free. Available sports and live streaming schedules are available on the respective sites.

AFL Betting Sites In-play Betting

Due to Australian Government Regulations, live AFL betting is currently prohibited. However, all of Australia’s quality online betting sites offer a live betting solution. In order to participate, check out the selection of AFL live odds offered by your favourite online betting site.

To place your live AFL wagers, simply pick up the phone and dial the live betting number indicated on the screen of your favourite online betting site.

Important AFL Live Betting Note – You will need to sign-up to the betting site online first, before you make your first phone call to place an AFL live bet.

AFL Fantasy Betting Sites

In recent times, AFL Fantasy betting has become incredibly popular with Aussie online punters.

For those who may not be aware of AFL Fantasy Sports Betting, fantasy betting is an online game of skill whereby the punter assembles a virtual team that accumulates points based on real-life AFL game statistics relevant to the sport.

Fantasy sports bets cane be placed on a fixed odds market, or, more commonly, in an online competition whereby the winner claims a portion of the total prize money. Your AFL fantasy team is scored against others in a fantasy league to determine a winning team, eligible for a cash prize over the pre-determined length of competition. AFL fantasy leagues can take place over an entire season, while Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) are over a single day, round or week, and can also involve competing against your work colleagues and friends in your own competition.

Draftstars Australia

Australia’s leading AFL DFS operator is Draftstars and with three different fantasy games (Classic, Head 2 Head and Rapidfire), that take place across different timeframes. Players will enjoy the fact that unlike many fantasy competitions, no season long commitment is required with Draftstars and fees range from free to play to larger entry fees with bigger cash prizes on offer. Choose when and how you wish to play at your convenience.

For those wanting learn more on Draftstars AFL DFS options, check BettingTop10’s Draftstars Review.

Whilst Draftstars is not traditional AFL betting in the purest sense, expert Draftstars DFS players are also developing into excellent AFL punters with an increased knowledge of the players involved. Draftstars players interested in taking up more traditional AFL betting options can try out PlayUp, Draftstars parent sports betting company.

Who will win the AFL Premiership 2024?

Does your favourite team have the best footy odds to lift the AFL Premiership Cup in 2024? Getting good betting odds on your team to win the AFL in 2024 will count for little if your team doesn’t eventually win the ‘big dance’, so let’s talk about the Top 6 genuine contenders in the AFL betting odds and betting and the best outsider team to win the cup;

Collingwood Magpies: While winning the premiership was no easy feat in 2023, I think Collingwood's prospects for a back-to-back victory look promising. On paper, the team is poised to improve even further, particularly with the addition of Lachie Schultz from Freo, whose natural fit in the half-forward role fills the void left by the departure of Taylor Adams. Despite Nick Daicos' injury-riddled finish in the previous season, he is expected to make a strong comeback in 2024. Additionally, the return of Dan McStay, who missed out on the premiership, strengthens an already formidable lineup that appears unstoppable when performing at its peak. Collingwood are the team to beat at the moment, in my opinion.

Brisbane Lions: Despite falling to the Pies in the 2023 decider, Brisbane put up a spirited performance in a fiercely contested Grand Final. So I think this offers strong indications that the Lions will remain contenders in the upcoming season. In the offseason, the Lions have bolstered their lineup by adding Tom Doedee to their backline, and the return of Will Ashcroft from an ACL injury later in the season is anticipated to be a significant boost for their already strong midfield. Given these improvements and their dominance at the Gabba in Brissy, the Lions appear well-positioned to make a run at the Grand Final in 2024.

Carlton Blues: In 2024, Carlton is a team with high ambitions, aiming to secure a top-four position and surpass their performance from the previous year when they made it all the way to the preliminary finals. Their season took a positive turn after a challenging six-game losing streak and questions about Vossy’s coaching ability. But to bounce back and make the finals indicates that when the Blues are firing on all cylinders, they are a strong team.

Should they maintain the momentum from their improved form into the upcoming season, there's every possibility that they could earn a double chance in the finals. This would be particularly beneficial for them, given their physically demanding, contested style of play, which can leave their players battle-worn and bruised, such as Patty Cripps.

Melbourne Demons: For the second year in a row, Melbourne's exit from the finals has left them grappling with questions surrounding the club's culture. The scrutiny has intensified with issues involving Clayton Oliver and Joel Smith's provisional suspension, raising concerns about their chances for a Grand Final victory. However, the true test of their resolve will come in 2024 when the Dees take to the field.

When operating at their peak performance, Melbourne is undeniably a tough team to beat, especially with May and Lever in the backline. Petracca also showed his versatility by playing more forward in 2023. The return of Harrison Petty should address some of their forward connection challenges too, and the addition of Shane McAdam further strengthens their goal-scoring ability.

GWS Giants: The dark horse of the 2023 was the Giants after reaching the prelim finals out of nowhere. Adam Kingsley did an outstanding job in his first season at the Giants as they won countless close games and performed exceptionally well away from Sydney. However, I think teams will pay a lot closer attention to them now and that makes 2024 a tougher schedule for the Giants to try and reach the GF.

Another major question that arises is whether the Giants have the depth to make a deep run in September. Toby Greene had an outstanding season, arguably one of the best in his career. But to maintain their contention, he may need to elevate his performance even further.

Sydney Swans: The Sydney Swans, who were one of this year's finals opponents, have taken significant steps to make a strong comeback in the next season. Their recruitment efforts in the offseason have created a lot of attention, with high-profile additions aimed at elevating their performance.

The addition of Brodie Grundy as the dominant ruckman is expected to have an impact, particularly in addressing the Swans' struggles with clearances and contests during the 2023 season. Additionally, the inclusion of Taylor Adams in the lineup gives them a versatile player that can lineup in the midfield or forward line.

Although the Swans no longer have the iconic Buddy Franklin, there is a sense of excitement among Swans supporters as they always seem to be there when it comes to playing finals footy in September.

Best Outsider to lift the Premiership Trophy

Adelaide were robbed of a top 8 spot in 2023 due to a critical goal umpiring error against the Swans so I think that will give them a lot of motivation during the 2024 season. Jordan Dawson has elevated his game since moving from the Swans as he’s now almost a full-time midfielder and a nightmare matchup for the opposition. Along with Laird, Keays, Rachele and Jones, the Crows have a strong midfield that can get the ball into the hands of Taylor Walker.

Tex is coming off his best season in the AFL at the ripe age of 33 years of age, which is extremely rare for an aging key forward. He finished with career highs in goals (76) and goals per game (3.5). Along with a strong home advantage at the Adelaide Oval and Matthew Nicks getting his gameplan right after a couple of lean years, I think Adelaide can shake up the competition in 2024.
